Jio voice-only plans now start at ₹147. Reliance Jio lists six voice-only prepaid packs under a “TRAI Mandated Packs” section: ₹147 (22 days), ₹177 (28 days), ₹196 (30 days), ₹197 (one calendar month), ₹448 (84 days) and ₹1,748 (336 days). All six give unlimited calls and a fixed SMS quota, with no mobile data listed, so they suit phones that mainly make calls or stay on Wi-Fi.
The short-validity packs follow a September 2026 TRAI amendment that asks operators to offer voice-and-SMS vouchers for every validity of 30 days or less. Here is the full list, what each pack costs per day and who should switch.
Quick summary
- Cheapest pack: ₹147 for 22 days with unlimited voice and 300 SMS.
- Lowest daily cost: ₹1,748 for 336 days (about ₹5.20 a day) with 3,600 SMS.
- Short packs (₹147, ₹177, ₹196, ₹197) include voice and 300 SMS only; the ₹448 and ₹1,748 packs also list JioTV and JioAICloud.
- None of the six lists any mobile data, so you need Wi-Fi or a data add-on for apps such as WhatsApp or UPI.
- The packs appear on Jio’s website under “TRAI Mandated Packs” (checked on 3 November 2026).

Why Jio added short voice-only packs now
The short packs line up with a new TRAI rule. In December 2024, TRAI’s Telecom Consumers Protection (Twelfth Amendment) Regulations asked operators to offer a separate voice-and-SMS special tariff voucher (STV), mainly to help people who do not use mobile data, such as many elderly and rural users. The same package raised the maximum validity of STVs and combo vouchers from 90 days to 365 days.
The Telecom Consumers Protection (Thirteenth Amendment) Regulations, 2026, notified on 21 September 2026, go further. According to the notification, operators must offer voice-and-SMS STVs with an appropriate price cut:
- for each validity of 30 days or less that matches a data voucher they sell;
- with a validity that renews on the same date every month (or the last day of a shorter month); and
- at least one with a longer validity than those.
The rule comes into force 30 days after its publication in the Official Gazette. Jio’s ₹147, ₹177, ₹196 and ₹197 packs appear to match its 22-day, 28-day, 30-day and calendar-month slots, while ₹448 and ₹1,748 cover longer validity.

Who should switch to a Jio voice-only plan?
A voice-only pack makes sense when the SIM rarely needs mobile data. Typical cases:
- Second SIM: keep a number active for calls and OTPs without paying for daily data you never use.
- Parents and grandparents: a feature phone or a smartphone that stays on home Wi-Fi.
- Office or shop line: a number used for calls and SMS alerts only.
- Heavy Wi-Fi users: people who are home or in the office most of the day and make app calls over Wi-Fi, for example with WhatsApp calling.
Skip these packs if you rely on mobile data outside Wi-Fi for UPI, maps or WhatsApp. A data plan, or a voice-only pack plus a separate data add-on, will work out better. How to recharge a Jio voice-only plan
You can buy these packs the same way as any other Jio prepaid plan.
- Open the MyJio app or the prepaid plans page on jio.com.
- Go to Recharge and choose the plan category TRAI Mandated Packs.
- Look for the “Voice only plan” tag and tap the arrow on a pack to see validity, SMS count and extras.
- Tap Buy, confirm your Jio number and pay.
- After payment, check the active plan and expiry date in the MyJio app.
Before you switch, check what happens to any data balance on your current plan, and avoid recharging over an active plan unless Jio says the new pack will queue after it. Keep an eye on SMS too: 300 SMS over a month is plenty for OTPs, but bulk forwards can use it up. What about Airtel, Vi and BSNL?
The TRAI rule applies to all telecom service providers, not just Jio, so Airtel, Vi and BSNL are also expected to list voice-and-SMS vouchers for short validities. Their prices and validity slots can differ by circle, so compare the voice-only section in each operator’s own app before porting or switching. We will add verified rival prices once the operators publish them on their official plan pages.
Frequently asked questions
What is the cheapest Jio voice-only plan?
The cheapest is ₹147, which gives unlimited calls and 300 SMS for 22 days. For the lowest cost per day, the ₹1,748 pack works out to about ₹5.20 a day over 336 days.
Do Jio voice-only plans include any data?
No mobile data is listed on any of the six packs. You will need Wi-Fi or a separate data pack for internet apps.
Can I receive OTPs on a voice-only plan?
Yes. While the pack is active your number can receive texts, including bank OTPs. The SMS count listed on each pack is for messages you send.
Why are these packs called “TRAI Mandated Packs”?
TRAI’s consumer protection rules require operators to offer voice-and-SMS-only vouchers. Jio groups the packs it offers under those rules in a section named “TRAI Mandated Packs”.
Bottom line
Jio voice-only plans give data-light users a cheaper way to keep a number active. Pick ₹147 to ₹197 if you want a monthly-style recharge, and ₹1,748 if you want the lowest daily cost and the fewest recharges. If you need mobile data away from Wi-Fi, stay on a regular plan.
