What Has Google Done This?

A few days back, Google came to know about some of these malicious apps and advised its users to uninstall these apps as soon as possible.

After this, Google took the lead by removing as many as 8 dangerous apps from Play Store that have been unveiled as cryptocurrency mining apps followed by a report from a security firm named Trend Micro.

The task of these apps is to attract innocent users by promising big profits with the investment of little money.

The firm has also unveiled that these malicious apps were tricking victims into watching ads, paying for subscription services that have a monthly fee of $15.

Other than this, users were also asked to pay for increased mining capabilities without getting anything in return.

If you have downloaded the following apps, then you must delete them as soon as possible.

  1. BitFunds
  2. Bitcoin Miner
  3. Bitcoin
  4. Crypto Holic
  5. Daily Bitcoin Rewards
  6. Bitcoin 2021
  7. MineBit Pro
  8. Ethereum

As per the statings of the security firm, two out of these are paid ones and the user needs to buy them.

For downloading apps like Crypto Holic and Bitcoin Cloud Mining, the users were required to pay $12.99. While they were asked to pay $5.99 for downloading the Daily Bitcoin Rewards.

Other than this, the security firm has also claimed that more than 120 fake cryptocurrency mining apps are still there on online platforms.

How To Recognize Such Apps?

You can do the following things to recognize such apps:

  • You must read the reviews of apps carefully. For those who are released publically, they get 5-star reviews.
  • If an app is a malicious one, then it accepts an invalid wallet address and performs follow-up operations.
  • The next way to find out whether the app that you are using is a genuine app or a fake one is by restarting the device while the app is running. After that, if the app stops running in the background, then it is fake.
  • Above all, if the app is accepting free withdrawals, then it can be fake because the transfer of cryptocurrency asks for handling free, which is high as compared to what is typically made from cloud mining.
